#GirlCode Trends on Twitter

#GirlCode is trending on Twitter. Here's how we feel about that.

Today we saw that #GirlCode is trending on Twitter. As to be expected, one’s Twitter stream will be filled with a variety of clever quips, DIY beauty tips, and questionable dating advice aimed at girls and women. That’s all well and good, but we have a different take on what #GirlCode should mean.

Here at SMBWomen, we believe that #GirlCode should mean helping to close the gender gap between men and women in the developer and programming trades, as well as the tech industry in general. Whether it’s IT services, website development and design, software creation, or something else entirely – women belong in tech.

In honor of this trending topic, we have compiled a list of organizations that are dedicated to teaching women and girls coding or programming skills that can help carry them to professional or entrepreneurial success. With a little motivation and education, women can take great strides to closing the gap in tech.  Thanks for the inspiration, Twitter.
